Contraception Choices: Understanding Your Options
When it comes to contraception, there are various options available to suit individual preferences and needs. Hormonal and non-hormonal methods offer diverse choices, each with its benefits.
Hormonal Contraception: Balancing Control and Convenience
Hormonal contraception, such as the Combined Oral Contraceptive Pill (commonly known as “the Pill”), provides an effective means of birth control for many individuals. These pills contain synthetic hormones that prevent pregnancy by suppressing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to impede sperm movement, and thinning the lining of the uterus.
Benefits of Hormonal Contraception:
Reliable: When taken correctly, hormonal methods like the Pill offer high efficacy rates.
Cycle Regulation: They can help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce menstrual cramps.
Reduced Bleeding: Often, they lead to lighter and shorter periods for some individuals.
Control Over Periods: Some formulations allow control over when periods occur.
Non-Hormonal Contraception: A Natural Approach
For those seeking hormone-free options, non-hormonal contraceptives offer a compelling choice.
Benefits of Non-Hormonal Contraception:
Hormone-Free: Suitable for individuals looking to avoid hormonal side effects.
Quick Reversibility: Fertility returns promptly after removal, allowing for family planning flexibility.
Convenient and Effective: Offers reliable contraception without daily maintenance.
Understanding the differences between hormonal and non-hormonal contraception can help you make an informed decision. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional to determine which method aligns best with your lifestyle, health considerations, and preferences.
At Consilient Health, we prioritize empowering individuals with reliable information about contraceptive options like Zoely, ensuring that everyone can make confident and informed choices about their reproductive health.
Zoely® is a combined contraceptive pill containing two active substances, nomegestrol acetate (a progestogen) and 17β-estradiol (an oestrogen)1. 17β-estradiol is the same as the hormone naturally produced by your ovaries during your menstrual cycle.1
Zoely® is a unique oral contraception, no other brand contains the same active ingredients in the same quantity as Zoely®.
Zoely® contains 28 pills so you take a pill every day, the first 24 pills contain active ingredients while the last 4 pills are placebo. This is different to many other combined oral contraceptives where you take the pill for 21 consecutive days and then have a seven day pill break.
Zoely® works by changing the body’s hormonal balance to prevent ovulation, by altering the cervical mucus and by thinning the endometrium (the lining of the womb).1
